The first video included below shows Sensei Gary Tiktin in 2011 instructing on how to rush the heavy bag. After observing countless fights, he knew that a fight generally begins with opponents rushing each other. Although the audio quality of the demonstration is poor, this is one of the last videos ever recorded of Sensei Tiktin. He explains how any technique from the kata can be used to practice on the heavy bag. Relevant to this video is a letter from Sensei Tiktin in 1993. Although there is a lot of superfluous information in the letter, skip to the paragraph beginning, "I have increased the intensity of my heavy bag work.", that describes Tiktin's heavy bag practice. Reading this paragraph gives you the understanding why Sensei Tiktin would say, "training is everything". The letter also includes a picture and narrative of Sallie Tiktin demonstrating a Kusanku kata posture. To view this letter you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader and click here.
The second video is Sensei John Newman's 2017 commentary and demonstration of the kata he developed at Sensei Tiktin's encouragement that combines favorite techniques from several of his lifetime martial arts practices.
The third video shows Sensei Newman explaining and demonstrating the five count elbow exercise drill taught in AKF classes.
